Happy Easter !

from: SONGS OF INNOCENCE (1789)
by William Blake
x
x
Piping down the valleys wild,
Piping songs of pleasant glee,
On a cloud I saw a child,
And he laughing said to me:
x
"Pipe a song about a Lamb!"
So I piped with a merry chear.
"Piper, pipe that song again,"
So I piped: he wept to hear.
x
"Drop thy pipe, thy happy pipe;
Sing thy songs of happy chear."
So I sung the same again,
While he wept with joy to hear.
x
"Piper, sit thee down and write
In a book, that all may read."
So he vanish'd from my sight,
And I pluck'd a hollow reed.
x
And I made a rural pen,
And I stain'd the water clear,
And I wrote my happy songs,
Every child may joy to hear.

Ahhh, you can never beat a good Blake! And this is as good as it gets. Many thanks, you have my day, or rather my night, it's almost 9pm here in GB. Happy Easter to you, too!

Greetings from London.

I adore this poem! You have paired it with a most beautiful image. One Easter weekend when I was about 8, my dog returned home from his jaunt in the woods, with a tiny, unharmed, cotton tail bunny. He gently laid it at the back door as if he intended it as a gift. My mother put it in a shoe box and brought it to me. I had been really sick with tonsilitis, and was not allowed to be outside. It was the first time I had actually seen a wild bunny or held one so closely. Naturally, I named him Thumper, and he was a precious pet. Happy Easter!
