DANCER/ Poetry Potluck #14

THIS WEEK, Poetry Potluck #14, offers the opportunity to indulge in Hobbies!  Passions!  Pastimes!  Entertainment!  Where do I fit in??  A bit of this and a bit of that....

DANCER

Show me
to a table,
don't pull
out the chair,
take the whiskey
glasses off,
and yank
the cloth aside.

Let me
take your hand
for a
boost up,
as I step upon
your knee,
see how
nimble
and refined
I am,
like the swan
in a
famous ballet.

I take flight,
I come to rest,
my crimson shoe
ready
to burn
a hole
on the spot.

Shine
the spotlight
here, boy,
don't miss
my modus operandi,
as I seize
a point in time
to do
my legendary dance.

Jazzy tap,
satin tango,
please
bring me
a sloe gin
fizz,
to sate this drought
within.

Toss a coin
if you wish
if you want
the show
to go on.

I'm the one
who dresses
in neon.
Travels
the world,
dances
on tables.

Lyn, really enjoyed this. It was lively and fun, just a bit snarky, and nicely reminiscent of both a time gone by and a universal type. I have a picture of the girl stepping casually on a knee with her crimson shoe, waiting for that hot spotlight to shake her stuff. Nice one.

I love this! Those short lines remind me of a sprightly dance. What an adventurous character.

First of all i was in a old time theatre watching Swan Lake then transported to a smoky jazz club watching the same dancer dancing on the tables that was very vivid indeed.

Different images came to mind but my favorite was the beat nick poet girl dressed as a Parisian, complete with beret and sunglasses. ..smiles..

A joy to read!
This poem dances burlesque and teases with roaring cocktails.

The only thing that matches the beauty of your dancing is your Poetry! :)

A totally enjoyable trip! As I read I had the image of Josephine Baker doing a flapper routine in my head - a great way to start off a Monday!

This one stirs my heart. I love the desperation below the surface. You are not only a gifted poet, you are a subtle delineater of character.
