MAGPIE...Prompt #151

                                                    Body Sock/ image/ Tess Kincaid

Thanks to Tess at Magpie Tales...

COVER UP

Once and for all
the farce of my attachment
to a notion of beauty
is exposed
as the entrapment
of conceit itself.

What was I thinking
so many years ago
with that
outburst of allure?

An old image,
smile and say cheese,
proves me a fool.

Nothing speaks
the truth of absurdity
like the shape
of my appearance,

my mind's eye now
rolling with derision
at "how could I"?

You always know to dig deeper than appearances, even in the face of absurdity!

Yes, interesting thoughts. How could I...with that cheesy, fake smile I once thought so lovely? :)

Your word choices are always excellent! And then again, the way you can so effortlessly capture what we all think is just a tribute to your subtle genius.

Kutamun said...

Amazing hiw you were able to attach it to some inner force of yours, an old delusion , makes it all the more powerful when someone is this open and brave ! . Good on ya

~T~ said...

Is this a sequel to last week's verse? Choosing warmth over allure...

Dori said...

Oh so vulnerable. We have these moments but very few can claim it and throw it back as poetry. Love you!

Lyn said...
